Pastor W.V. Pickens III

Pastor W .V. Pickens, III is a man after God’s own heart. His footsteps were ordered by God in 1974 at the age of 22. He is fully persuaded that nothing will separate him from the love of God. The anointing of God lies upon him. It rests and abides through him. Philippians 3:14 characterizes his life: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

 Pastor was formally educated in the Chicago school system. He joined the U.S. Air Force in early 1974 and served his country faithfully for four years. He was commissioned to serve as Assistant to the Chaplain for the next few years. In 1976, he established the first African American Gospel Military Chapel Service & Outreach Ministry, commemorating the late Rev. Dr. Martin L. King’s Birthday, his life and legacy at Strategic Air Commands Wurthsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Michigan. (This service is currently active).

Pastor Pickens married Julie Goodman on February 17th 1985. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Lyric Ann Pickens in 1995 and Julian Gerard Pickens in 1999.

 His personal characteristics are:

Pastor Pickens received his Undergraduate Degree in Biblical Studies from the Moody Bible Institute. A Masters of Theology in Religious Education, and a Doctorate of Divinity from GMOR Theological Institute of Houston Texas.

He served in a variety of leadership capacities, such as: Youth minister for the “Midwest Youth Conference”, District President of the B.T.U., and also Sunday School Teacher and Conference Leader.

Pastor Pickens has embraced Matthew 28:19 “Go make disciples of all”. Since being installed as the Pastor of the Gerizim Community Baptist Church of Chicago in 1992, where he converted two thirds of the congregation were previously un-churched.

Pastor Pickens worked under the leadership of The Reverend Dr. George W. Waddles, Sr., President of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education (Auxiliary to the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.) at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. According to God’s will Pastor Pickens was called to the Shiloh M.B. Church of Indianapolis, In as Pastor on August 29, 2009, where he served diligently until he resigned in December 2013.

Pastor Pickens has taught in the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, USA in 2010 and 2011, under the Leadership of the Dean of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. Dr. Elliot Cuff.

Pastor Pickens also teaches various classes in the Union District Congress of Christian Education and for the local Certificate of Progress Program in the Indianapolis, Indiana Area.

Pastor has also worked with the Union District Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. and its Auxiliaries under the leadership of the Reverend Ronald Covington, Sr. Moderator. In addition Pastor has also worked with the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Indiana, Inc and its Auxiliaries under the leadership of Reverend Charles L. Emery, President. In July of 2011 Reverend Emery appointed Pastor Pickens as the Central Regional coordinator for The Congress of Christian Education. As God would have it Pastor Pickens upon leaving Shiloh M.B. Church was called to organize Hope M.B. Church in January 2013 where he now serves. He is currently working on completing two books God has envisioned him with in hopes of someday getting them published.
